Gil Walsh’s personal style provides a visual harbinger of her interior design skills. Eternally elegant and chic, the principal of Gil Walsh Interiors of West Palm Beach and Martha’s Vineyard has devoted her 30+ year career to timeless design, and what she terms her ‘life’s calling,’ originated from her keen fashion sense and interest in architecture. She and her firm are frequently featured in leading shelter, design, lifestyle, and fashion publications both in the U.S and worldwide. She serves on the advisory board for Frank Lloyd Wright’s residential masterpiece Falling Water and is a member of the Design Leadership Network’s Decorator’s Club and the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Hers is not an ordinary design firm. Entrusted with more than $250 million in interior design work, Walsh and her team of 16 base their incredible success on five core values that form the foundation of the company culture: One, client intimacy – putting the client at the center of everything. Two, creativity – to go beyond the ordinary into the extraordinary. Three, commitment – dedication and devotion to perfection. Four, integrity – to be an honest, trustworthy partner to clients and architects. And five, accountability – to ensure that the right things are done, right.
A natural leader, Walsh’s design ingenuity is rooted in her thoroughness of nature. She leaves no stone unturned before unleashing her creative magic, transforming dreams into reality. Gil Walsh Interiors is a place where thoughtful solutions and timeless style come together to create elegant spaces.
When did you first become interested in interior design, and how did you know that you had a knack for it?
At a young age. I was raised in an artful home, as both my parents were collectors of art and antiques. I studied fashion design and costume design at the university. It was when I started designing sets that I decided that interior design was my career goal.
Where are you from originally, and where do you now live?
I was raised in a small town in Western Pennsylvania, then at 14 years old, my parents sent me to an out-of-state boarding school. Out-of-state university followed. I’ve lived in several large cities practicing interior design. I am now a full-time resident in West Palm Beach, Florida, with a satellite office in Martha’s Vineyard.
What did you do professionally before opening your own firm?
I was an interior designer for large design firms. My last job before opening Gil Walsh Interiors was with a 250-person architectural firm. I was in charge of the department that catered to luxury design and hospitality.
What is your design philosophy?
To listen, to create, and to collaborate with my clients to tell their stories. I believe that Gil Walsh Interiors is Where Style Lives.
Who and where are most of your clients?
Having lived in many places, my clients are throughout the USA. Recently with COVID, there is a mass migration to South Florida. Our design projects are currently
all over South Florida from the east to the west coast. And we have an active satellite studio in Martha’s Vineyard. Our client’s careers vary, but they are all upscale homeowners.
If you could offer just one design tip to every homeowner, what would it be?
Go beyond the ordinary, don’t be afraid of color or style.
How do you describe your style and aesthetic? How might clients describe your style and aesthetic?
All our projects are dedicated to a devotion to perfection. We blend classic style with updated elements. No matter the client’s vision, we provide a stylish solution.
You have an impressive team. Are you involved at some level with every client and every project?
We have 16 talented and dedicated professionals on our team. I am involved and work closely with my team at all levels of decision-making on every project in the studio.
What is your favorite type of project (i.e., a whole home makeover? A particular room? Helping to choose a color scheme, etc.?)
Gil Walsh Interiors is not your ordinary design firm. It has been described as a place where thoughtful solutions live. A place where perspiration and inspiration meet. A place that transforms a home. A place that creates worlds of comfortable elegance. A place where timeless style lives. Of course, a complete renovation of a home allows us to create a full-color palette and theme.
What is the most important aspect of the successful client/designer relationship? We believe in communication skills – we listen to our clients we discuss their visions. And, we live to showcase their lifestyle and story.
What do you love most about what you do?
Solving a client’s puzzle, creating their story, and making sure their interiors showcase their brand and personal lifestyle.
